Hi, I’m Ben.
I moved to Kyoto eight years ago after marrying my wife, who grew up here. What started as a new chapter slowly became home. Over time, I found myself learning the small details of this city, not just the famous places but the quiet streets, the seasonal traditions, and the stories behind everyday life.
I’ve been guiding for several years now, leading history walks, food tours, and cultural experiences around Kyoto. I prefer small groups where we can actually talk, ask questions, and explore at a comfortable pace. No flags, no memorized speeches, just real conversation and context.
If you’re curious about geiko culture, tea traditions, samurai history, or simply where locals spend their time, I’d be happy to share what I’ve learned.
Kyoto has many layers. I’d love to help you see a few of them.
Ben was fantastic. He built a detailed and well organized walk that we all enjoyed. His sense of humor and information added an extra pinch of delight to the walk. Highly recommended
Ben was incredibly personal and informative as we walked through the bamboo forest and beautiful surrounding area. We were grateful for his flexibility as it was a very rainy day and he was willing to continue the tour when other visitors had cancelled. The tour surpassed our expectations and is an area that shouldn’t be missed. Definitely on our list to visit again if we are so fortunate!
Great guide!! Very personable and good information.
Ben is a wonderful tour guide, easy going, pleasant, friendly with a great sense of humor. We saw much more of Arashiyama than just the Bamboo Forest. He took us to points of interest we would not have found on our own. Also saw beautiful scenery that provided good photo ops. I recommend Ben and this tour if you’re in Kyoto.
