Lisbon Walking Tour: Historic Strolls of the Old Town
Tour description
Alfama is not only one of the oldest and most picturesque districts of Lisbon, but also one of the only ones not to have been destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. As such, the city has retained its old family charm. In fact, the name of this district comes from the Arabic word “Al-hamma”, which means “hot springs” or “baths”.
Decorated with beautiful “azulejos”, the steep and winding streets of this neighborhood offer stunning views of a sea of tiled roofs and the Tagus River. The smells of traditional Portuguese cuisine, the echoes of fado melodies and the chatter of elderly Portuguese residents make this neighborhood one of the most authentic in Lisbon!
Our tour starts in Rossio and passes by some important landmarks before reaching the heart of Alfama, where you will make a stop at Miradouro Portas do Sol, before ending the tour at the cathedral.
