Essential Free walking tours of Lisbon

We did a free walking tour in Lisbon with Bruno, and to say that he is passionate about what he does would be an understatement. He was truly outstanding—engaging, entertaining, and able to keep the entire group’s attention from start to finish. What we especially appreciated was how he explained Portugal’s history in such a simple and accessible way, making it easy to follow how the country developed over time. Bruno showed us wonderful places around the city and brought them to life with his charisma and enthusiasm. His love for Lisbon and for Portugal really came through in everything he said, and it made the experience feel authentic and memorable. Thanks to him, we feel like we truly understood the city. He didn’t just share facts—he gave us insights and stories that we will carry with us long after the trip. The tour made our stay in Lisbon much more enjoyable and meaningful. Nuno gave a good tour, with lots of interesting anecdotes, avoiding dull history and not afraid to deal with tough subjects, such as the Portuguese revolution, expulsion of the Jews, and much, much more. Learned a lot and enjoyed - even tried his recommendation for a bifula, the famed Portuguese sandwich and his pastry recommendation was great, too.

There was so much noise going on around us but she made sure that all of us could hear her and moved to quieter spaces when possible. She was so accommodating and was such a lovely singer! Telma gave us a deeply felt tour of her beloved home, with plenty of historical and cultural information and talk about the current problems that cities like Lisbon face. Telma has an excellent singing voice and her telling of the 1974 revolution, with the two songs played on the radio to signal the event had her group spellbound.

Rita was an exceptional tour guide! She shared a lot of interesting information about Portugal’s history and random fun facts. We went all throughout 4 different neighborhoods, which was very helpful for the beginning of our trip. I do free tours in every city I visit and Rita was one of the top 2 tour guides I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this tour and Rita!

This was a fabulous 3 hour walking tour which started in Praca Luis de Camoes ending at the top of Alfama. It gave us a very good background of Lisbon, its people & culture. Our guide Maria held a PhD in Ethnomusicology and my friend was a huge Fado music fan so she was a perfect guide showing us some key Fado music houses around Bairro Alto. We were also lucky to have had a good group of people who kept up with the walk with good questions & good humour. Maria had such good historical knowledge that at the end of the tour, we could cite the names of Portugal’s national heroes. Along the tour, we stopped off at a Pasteis de Nata shop along Rua Augusta where Maria treated us to a tart each, before heading towards Alfama where along the uphill walk route we all enjoyed a little Ginjinha made by locals & finished the tour with a beautiful view on top of the hill. We totally enjoyed our tour with Maria & would highly recommend both her & GuruWalk highly !

This was far too long 4 hours

I didn't know what to expect going into the tour but it was a pleasant surprise in every way possible. Fraga is an amazing storyteller and I knew nothing about Portuguese history or Lisbon before coming here and this tour was a great way to learn so much and see the city while getting oriented for the days ahead. There was fun surprises here and there and overall the walk was not bad at all and time flew by. Amazing and would recommend to anyone going to Lisbon.

Our guide Kate was interesting and informative. We would definitely recommend this tour. Not suitable for elderly due to hills and cobbled streets!

Our tour with Fraga was excellent - very fun and a perfect way to explore Lisboa. Lots of history shared in a really engaging way and really enjoyed stopping for Pastéis de Nata and then Ginjinha from chocolate cups. Fraga made sure to make everybody feel included in the tour, was able to answer questions well and make it a really great experience.

This was a fantastic tour to get to know the history and neighborhoods of Lisbon highly recommend

Amazing tour

The guru was perfect. Just a little comment, she would speak slowlyer because not all of the clients has first language English. If English is not your firtlet language maybe you will miss some informations.

Antonio was an outstanding guide for our walking tour in Lisbon. From the very beginning, his knowledge and passion for the city were clear—he shared fascinating facts and stories with ease, all while keeping the experience fun and engaging with his great sense of humor. What truly set Antonio apart was his generosity and attentiveness. He made sure to adapt the tour to everyone in the group, including my 7-year-old daughter, who felt just as included and entertained as the adults. That level of care made the experience even more special. The 2.5-hour walk flew by—it honestly didn’t feel that long at all. One of the highlights was, of course, tasting pastel de nata. We had already tried them several times during our trip, but Antonio added a little Portuguese twist that made this tasting unforgettable. We took this tour on our last day in Lisbon, and it’s our only regret—we wish we had done it earlier. With all the incredible recommendations Antonio shared, we could have explored even more historic sites and enjoyed some amazing local spots he suggested. Obrigada, Antonio! You made our time in Lisbon truly memorable.
