A bit of history, a bit of trivia and a wee dash of stand-up. Born and bred in Edinburgh, I worked as a staff reporter, feature writer and cinema editor on The Scotsman for 17 years and subsequently wrote regularly for the Guardian and London Times. I have written and edited several books, including The Times on Cinema and On Location - The Film Fan's Guide to Britain and Ireland.

Visit Edinburgh Castle and learn how a meeting with a tourist from Tennessee changed my life and may change the course of Scottish history.

Learn about the world’s first skyscrapers and how people coped without toilets or bathrooms.

Hear how the kilt became Scotland’s national costume and why it was once banned.

Visit the grave of a sea captain who died in obscurity 200 years and discover why it has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands.

Brilliant! A native of Edinburgh Brian was fantastic at bringing the city to life - full of fun facts, great stories and real knowledge - this was a unique tour. Really worth the time and money. Brian was particularly lovely to the wide range of people on the tour - patient and kind when answering questions.
