Art Walking Tour in Georgian Edinburgh

Duration: 2h
Languages: English
Guru: Brian
Quality Verified Registered on December 09, 2019

Hello, my name is Brian and I've been guiding in Edinburgh, Scotland and London for 15 years and very much enjoy showing this fabulous city of Edinburgh to the world. I spent 11 years working at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queens Official Residence in Scotland, before studying in London for a year to gain a Special Diploma in Tour Guiding. Today, my focus is on Edinburgh and Scotland and I love learning more about this beautiful city and country.

Tour description

This tour is dedicated to the art of Edinburgh, as there is a general lack of walking tours in the city and I wanted to provide a tour on one side of Edinburgh that is ignored by other tours.

You should book this tour as it is very different from anything else you might experience in Edinburgh.

The walking tour includes a number of different sites in Edinburgh's 18th / 19th century New Town:

  • Robert Adam's Charlotte Square.
  • The site of one of the few Scottish performances of Fryderyk Chopin.
  • The Scottish novelist, Sir Walter Scott's house (no entry) and the story of his positive and negative life.
  • George Street Meeting Rooms. A Georgian ballroom and a place where many famous authors have spoken.
  • Statue of Allan Ramsay. Writer of opera, poetry and theater champion in Edinburgh.
  • The Sir Walter Scott Monument and the David Livingstone Monument, both examples of Amelia Robertson Hill's sculptural work. An example of female sculpture in Victorian Scotland.
  • The Scottish National Portrait Gallery (no entry).
  • Waverley gate and the history of an 18th / 19th century theater with royal ties.

The tour includes my guide fees. Anything else like food, drink, etc. It is not included in the price. I would advise those attending to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and to bring an umbrella.

Brian led us around Edinburgh for two hours and showed us various interesting things we would not have stumbled upon by ourselves. He also recommended places we should aim to visit during the rest of our stay. We recommend to take the tour if you would like to be informed from someone who really knows the place!

We really enjoyed our tour with Brian! We appreciated his passion for the city and learned so many things. We also got some very nice recommendation for local pubs (and deep fried mars bar) !!

Brian is one of the best walking guides I’ve ever met (I’d joined walking tours almost in every city I’ve travelled to), he knows a lot about Edinburgh, the changes the city has gone through. I was expecting the art walking tour would be a bit boring to be honest, but it turned out to be extremely fun and both myself and my partner really enjoyed it.
