Free tour Pontevedra Essential
We are a team of young professionals in art history and tourism, passionate about our country and our culture; we want to show and offer visitors all kinds of experiences. We have decided to dedicate ourselves to what we like the most, that is why we have trained as Galicia Official Guides and we offer both guided tours and accompanying guide services in different places in Galicia.
Get to know the historic city of Pontevedra with our free tour of the most important Old Town in Galicia after Santiago de Compostela. A port city of Roman origin, with endless bridges that honor its name, maritime and monumental. The city of Valle Inclán has a lot to offer and with our help you will discover all its corners, buildings and museums that make Pontevedra a charming place, perfect to get lost and explore. We will be in front of the Sanctuary of the Pilgrim Virgin. From there, we will begin our tour of the historic center of this city of Roman origin, the most important in Galicia after that of Santiago de Compostela. During this walking tour, we will discover the secrets of Pontevedra, which has buildings from the 19th century, such as the Town Hall or the Provincial Government, although we will also see the ruins of the church of Santo Domingo and those of the medieval wall. Next, we will admire the exterior of Santa María la Mayor, one of the most significant temples in the Galician town. On the facade of this church you may find a nice figure with glasses ... Let's see if you can find her! We will continue heading towards the banks of the Lérez river, where we will see the bridges that give the city its name, among which the one in Burgo stands out. Did you know that Pontevedra means "old bridge"? We will finish the guided tour visiting the alleys that Valle Inclán walked through until we reached Plaza do Teucro and Plaza de la Herrería, where two of the most emblematic monuments are found: the convent of San Francisco and the famous church of the Pilgrim.
