Hi, I am John, your local guide. I have lived in the Sheffiield area of Yorkshire all my life and I am a keen walker, both in the towns and cities and the surrounding countryside. I’m easy going and enjoy a day out in the fresh air, particularly if the day ends with a pint in the local pub! I am usually exploring the areas for out next adventure. I’ll look forward to meeting you and showing you the places of interest.

About the tour

Come with me today on a good old ferret around the ancient village of Castleton,as we explore all the nooks and crannies of this unique picture postcard location with views of its own Castle, secret hidden Dale, Church and of course a look towards the impressive cavern known only as the Devil’s Arse!

Weather permitting, we can view the famous Mam Tor, known as the shivering mountain, and see The Great Ridge as we walk towards the Winnats Pass and the sinisterly named Suicide Hole!

When the walk is completed you may wish to purchase tickets to visit the Castle and the Caverns on the outskirts of Castleton as these are not included on the walk, or prehaps peruse the shops to admire the world renowned Blue John Stone jewellery which is manufactured locally or visit one of the many village pubs..

Part of the walk up the lower section of the Dale is optional, as it is on uneven ground, so sturdy footwear with ankle support is recommended.
