Tour description

Join Alex on a Harlem history tour and follow the neighborhood from the American Revolution to the Harlem Renaissance, and beyond.

We’ll visit famous churches, theaters, mansions, and some of NYC’s finest residential architecture. We’ll also discuss people and places considered central to African American identity in the United States, like Langston Hughes, Malcolm X, and the iconic Apollo Theater.

Eventually, we’ll arrive in “Little Senegal”, NYC’s largest West African community. We’ll talk about contemporary West African migration to the United States, visit several local markets, and meet some business owners in the neighborhood.

Along the way, you'll have plenty of opportunities to engage and ask questions.
Tours are casual, flexible, and fun, so bring your curiosity and a comfortable pair of walking shoes!

Alex is a breath of fresh air when it comes to tour guides. He has his own unique style, he provides a calm tour with well thought out information and he gave us lots of moments to let the surroundings and information sink in. I ended the tour feeling relaxed and honestly re-filled with mental energy (my feet on the other hand ;).

Alex’s Harlem tour was fantastic. We visited several really interesting neighborhoods and also stopped by a restaurant for Ghanaian food. It’s delicious.
