    Saint Martin's Cathedral

    The cathedral is an ancient bishop's church, rebuilt in Gothic style after World War I, housing the tombs of Bishop Jansenius and Count Robrecht of Bethune, the 'Lion of Flanders.' Inside, you'll find a beautiful side altar with a retable and the miraculous statue of Our Lady of Thuyne. The tower soars to a height of 100 meters, though it is not accessible to the public. Adjacent to the cathedral is the Lapidarium, which houses ancient remains of the Saint Martin's Priory.

    Ypres War Victims Monument

    The monument was designed by city architect Jules Coomans in 1924 and executed by sculptor Aloïs De Beule from Ghent between 1924 and 1926. It is also referred to as the 'Monument of Fury' due to uprisings during its inauguratio.

    Saint George's Memorial Church

    In Ypres today there are two great memorials to the fallen of the First World War, perhaps the best known of which is the Menin Gate. St George’s however, is of equal importance in regards to perpetual remembrance and is an active, vibrant church serving the local community and thousands of annual visitors.

    Irish Cross Ypres

    Celtic Cross also called 'The Munster Memorial' in memory of the soldiers of the Irisch province of Munster who fell in the Ypres Salient during the First Word War.

    Menin Gate

    The Last Post, the traditional final salute to the fallen, is played by the buglers of the Last Post Association in honour of the memory of the soldiers of the former British Empire and its allies, who died in the Ypres Salient during the First World War. It is the intention of the Last Post Association to maintain this daily act of homage in perpetuity.
