Free walking tour in Berlin

I did this tour with a friend and we learnt so much! Although it was a small tour, it felt very well organised and personal: we could ask questions at any time. Martin was very knowledgeable and we could tell that he was passionate about his city. At each stop he told us a little bit of history and then a family story that made it feel much realer. Our highlight was the tastings of East German products that are still around today - you'd never know their history of you saw them in the supermarket. If you are looking for an interesting tour led by a real East Berliner then do this one!

This tour was awesome! Combining history and music is a very unique to discover the city. Axel plays very good guitar and sings, and the addition of the violin at the end is just perfect. Would recommend 100%!

This tour was the perfect mix of festive fun and fascinating history! Mary is a fantastic guide – knowledgeable, friendly, and full of great tips for enjoying Berlin’s Christmas markets. I loved learning about the traditions and hidden stories behind the markets, and the free time to explore was well planned. It was great to get a bit of what is the hype but without artificial overexcitement or being „sold” anything. Ending at the Rotes Rathaus market was a great idea, the best market of all. Highly recommend if you’re in Berlin in December!

Nima was an excellent guide. As two Americans who wanted a local to really show us what Berliners eat and what makes up the gastronomic fanfare of the city, we were so pleased by Nima’s tour. We tried curry wurst, söner kebab, falafel, baklava, tea, cheese, tarts, beer, and wine. I was so full by the end of the tour. Nima went the extra step to make sure we wrapped up the remaining food to take back to our hotel. I was so glad we did, because we finished it that evening. The route was really cool too, as we probably would not have seen the Kreuzberg neighborhood otherwise. Nima also took us on the metro, which was cool to experience in Berlin. Nima weaved in contemporary history, immigration, Nazi/ColdWar history, and food history into the tour so well. I felt like I really saw part of Berlin that Berliners enjoy.

I attended the Berlin history tour. It was one best your I have attended. This tour covered all the places I had in my list to visit. She was well informed about all the building and explained every place in historical context and event which ended at that place. She was also explaining social context related to Berlin society and people. I had very good time and learned a lot. It was also interested as I have interest in history and society.

This was such a great tour! Rafael was super knowledgeable and friendly, and I ended up meeting a lot of great people. He won’t show you the most cliché or common things which I really appreciated. He was also flexible and accommodated for my specific interest during the tour. He clearly cares about the community which made his description of Berlin‘s queer scene extra touching. Would absolutely take this again next time I’m in Berlin.

A must-do! Excellent tour. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us a fantastic day in Kreuzberg. We learnt about history, art, culture and much more. This 3 hour tour gave us true essence of this beautiful neighborhood. I appreciated it a lot. Highly recommend!

Behzad provided an amazing tour that was extremely informative. I love excursions that give an historical overview of a city - how it came to be and this is what I got with this tour. The division between East and West not on post WWII political outcomes but built how it built up from the 1800s. I’d recommend this as a walk before doing those that look at the immediate precursors to WWI and WWII as it helps explain the political, social and economic situation that provided the context for such radical change. Martin brought to life the automotive history of Berlin for us during this tour. As an Argentinian journalist based in Berlin who covers the automotive industry, there is a lot of depth to the information that he shares. He is also well prepared to answer a lot of adjacent historical questions in regards to Berlin. He clearly has done his research surrounding the various stops that we make on our tour. Although the group was small, just myself and my husband, Martin remained committed to leading the tour to ensure that we received this interesting perspective. He covers everything from the first car ever made by Mercedes to modernized vehicles that are powered by electric, and maybe one day hydrogen. He was friendly and we loved that in between the stops we had time to get to know him sharing questions and experiences about all of our travels. There is so many places we would’ve never thought to visit or it not for his guidance, including the race track upon which Hitler led his propaganda as well as great scheme to build the fastest cars of that time. We enjoyed all of the hidden secrets smart and unlocked during this tour and highly recommend this to anyone either interested in cars, or history or knowledge in general.

I've done a lot of "Third Reich" walking tours in Berlin & elsewhere -- and this truly ranks one of the best I've been on! Chris "the Canadian" is well-informed about this really complicated period. He presents details in an engaging, almost storytelling way, balancing hard fact w/ current conditions. Expectd a grounded context of Jewish life in Germany (w/ details of Berlin), the ruthlessness of Hitler et al, and how it's all remembered today (memorials, etc). Chris is highly personable -- taking time for everyone's questions & comments-- and then finished our tour w/ an uplifting story. This is a tour you really don't want to miss! 6 stars!

Fantastic tour with very informed guide who talks clearly and in a light hearted manner. The sights were surprisingly good and some new even to a Berliner.
