Joana Almeida and Joaquim Almeida have been working as local guides in Guimarães for the past three years for a local provider. Now they have decided to embrace a new project of their own.
Joana:
“I chose to become a guide in Guimarães so I could share my love for the city, its history, legends, and hidden gems, while also managing my own schedule and dedicating more time to my family, as I am the mother of a three-year-old girl. I love meeting people and sharing knowledge and experiences. My background in communication and arts & culture management, together with my three years of experience as a guide in Guimarães, has given me the skills and knowledge to offer you a complete and engaging tour.”
Joaquim:
“Driven by a deep passion for history, especially Portuguese and local history, I decided to become a local guide. History is also my academic field: I hold a degree in History from the University of Porto and I am currently pursuing a master’s degree. Guiding visitors through the city allows me to combine my academic work with my love for sharing history. As a native of Guimarães, my connection to the city is truly special. I am deeply proud of its heritage, traditions, and culture. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than sharing the stories that shaped this remarkable city and explaining its crucial role in the birth of Portugal as a sovereign nation.”
