My life in Kyoto: Colombian living with my Japanese wife, her mother, her grandmother and our son - 4 generations experiencing the contrast between the world's most opposite cultures. My background in Japanese tech companies, work as a CrossFit trainer, and years researching Kyoto's history with locals give me unique perspectives - from understanding why I shouldn't drink all the ramen broth, to the most subtle social codes. My tours are spontaneous conversations where I mix real history with deep cultural interpretations - which is what travelers really want: understanding the why behind the what.
Joseph guided us through his area in Kyoto, showing us some hidden gems and some unusual sites. His tour has a very personal take, bringing us into the daily life of people in Kyoto from the eyes of a non-Japanese person, from shower habits to traditional food up to our encounter with natto (fermented soya beans). It is an interesting and deep connection with an intimate side of Japanese culture.
Joseph is incredible with his tour. Really laid back tour, away from touristy spot. Meeting his family and getting a souveni snack with Natto was higlight of this tour. 💯 recommended!
I really enjoyed the walk with Joseph. Its a unique perspective and very different from other tours that are more about the key tourist sites. With a small group I had the chance to ask lots of questions about not just the tour but about aspects of Japanese culture and his experience as a foreigner in Japan. Really worth it, thanks Joseph!
Increíble experiencia, realmente fue un recorrido único y original que vale la pena hacer en Kyoto. Se aprende mucho de la cultura japonesa y el estilo de vida en esta ciudad, nos encantó escuchar de primera persona como vive uno en este país y lo que es real (no mitos que se repiten sin fundamento como en otros tours). Lo recomiendo mucho para personas que realmente buscan comprender cómo piensa la sociedad japonesa, cómo viven y qué tradiciones reales mantienen. Joseph tiene muchos años de vivir en Japón y el valor que aporta todo su conocimiento es lo que hace que este tour no sea como otros. También recorrimos templos preciosos que no van a poder explorar en otro tour (y eso que hicimos varios), lugares muy tranquilos en donde uno puede contemplar la belleza del Kyoto real, lejos de los grandes grupos de turistas y con tiempo para recorrerlos con tranquilidad.
