Hike the Rock, and Meet the Wildlife
Tour description
We will start our hike in the town center, but will soon find ourselves away from the hustle as we walk among the old buildings and narrow roads. We will then take the path up into the Nature Reserve where you will be among some of the old military battery's and meet some of the locals (Barbary Macaques). We will continue our walk south and take in some of the great views over the bay. Leaving the main path and taking an old military track, we will hike east up to the summit of the Rock with stunning views of the North African cost and Mediterranean sea, taking in caves and old WW2 buildings along with the wild life and flora. From the summit at 426m we will make our way along the top of the rock... Before making our way down the rock via ex MOD grounds and back into town.
Depending on your available time, fitness, and ability level, there are couple of routes to choose from and include beautiful scenic views of Gibraltar, The Bay, North African Coast and the Mediterranean. Many of the paths we will be taking are old MOD routes used in WW2. If one knows what to look for, there are many hidden doorway into the WW2 tunnels that honeycomb the rock. Stories of discovery, history and life's challenges.
