Ciao a tutti! My name is Marta and I am an authorized local guide for the entire Italian territory. I have a degree in Art History and a passion for Archeology. I have been working as a tour guide in Italy since 2006, a profession that I combine with that of a local guide in Sicily. I have lived in Rome and Florence, but more than a decade ago I set foot on this spectacular island for the first time and from the first moment I knew that I was going to spend a lot of time here. I hope I can show you Palermo, I am sure you will love it!
About the tour
This visit is perfect for those who want to see inside the main monuments of Palermo and delve into the fascinating history of the Normans and their arrival in a Muslim Sicily. The ideal would be to do it after the "Discover the heart of Palermo" tour, which is the introductory walk to the city, but it is not essential either. Our visit covers the main monuments of the Sicilian Norman Arab style, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco: the spectacular Palatine Chapel, located inside the Palace of the Normans: the mosaics made with 24 carat gold will leave you speechless We will continue with the Cathedral of Palermo and a little gem, the Martorana Church, in whose convent some typical Palermitan sweets were born. In addition, we will walk through some of the popular streets of the city, and we will know not only its history, but also details of daily life. In the event that you have already visited any of these buildings or due to restrictions on church hours, they may be replaced by the churches of San Juan de los eremitas or San Cataldo. The visit is only made from Friday to Sunday, since they are the days that the Normans Palace is open and can be done both in the morning and in the afternoon, if there were no other participants it could even be adjusted to your needs. Entrance fees to monuments are not included, only general admission to the Cathedral, whose admission is free. This is not the classic free tour: you will enjoy a visit with an official guide, a careful itinerary and with small groups. In addition, we will use an individual radio microphone system, which will allow us to maintain the interpersonal distance to perfectly follow the explanations while walking, even if you want to get away to take pictures. For all this, the tour has a suggested price of € 10 per person. If you're still hesitating, check out my views on the other tour!
