Saint Mark Square FREE tour
We are a group of freelance tour guides who decided to work toghether to support authentic and local Venice, the city we live in and that we truly love. We are not part of a big multinational company but we are all licensed tour guides who support local traditions, local business and culture. Most of all, we proudly encourage sustainable tourism, which is the concept of visiting a city and trying to have a positive impact on its environment, its society and its economy. We truly believe that this is the most important thing, especially in a city like Venice!
Tour description
It is absolutely impossible to come to Venice without stepping foot in its most precious and amazing work of art: Saint Mark’s Square. There, centuries of history have seen the sequence of great people who took part in the most lavish events, the most solemn ceremonies and the spectacular celebrations of the popular Venetian Carnival. Every brick, every stone, every piece of mosaic in the square, seem to talk about conspiracies, assemblies, executions, great conquerors, explorers and Doges. There is no other place in the whole city that allows one to time travel, breathing the atmosphere of a great past still so closely bonded to the present and projected into the future. If this has grabbed your attention, every day just before sunset, we will take a walk in the most beautiful Square of the world starting directly from there. The tour will entirely cover Saint Mark's square and all its monuments from outside: - We will talk about the Procuratie - The Astronomical clock - The Saint Mark bell tower - The Basilica of Saint Mark - The Doge's Palace and its prisons and the history of the city.
