A monastery was built here in the 16th century, and the Habsburgs subsequently built a castle (which no longer stands today). The semi-enclosed garden is currently used as a private park, which is a pleasant surprise. The Bourbon ruler, known as Carlos III, increased the city's wealth and commissioned the construction of the Paseo del Prado with its fountains, a triumphal arch, and the surrounding Prado Museum, one of the most important art museums in the world.
