HIDDEN architectural treasures of Munich

Duration: 2h and 15min
Languages: German, English, Spanish
Quality Verified Registered on June 06, 2023

As an architect living in Munich, I am happy to show you the hidden architectural treasures of my city. I've been on quite a few trips myself, including Chile, Japan, Australia, South Africa, Europe and the USA. In contact with local people, I have always come closest to the country. In my free time I like to climb and boulder. Born in Germany, I have Spanish roots and ancestors from Estonia - an international mix :) I speak fluent German, English and Spanish and also some French.

Tour description

We will discover hidden and unconventional places in Munich during a 2:15-hour city walk.

We experience how the new public theater 'Volkstheater'  connects past and present in the vibrant Schlachthofviertel and immerse ourselves in the lively and colorful world of 'Bahnwärter Thiel' - this dynamic event and cultural space is created from over 40 shipping containers decorated with graffiti.

We will also follow the fascinating transformation of a discarded excursion boat into one of Munich's cultural highlights - the 'Alte Utting'. It's not just the sunset and the newspaper article in the New York Times that are impressive here, but above all the story of how this crazy project came into beeing.

The tour ends in 'Gans Woanders', one of the most extraordinary beer gardens in Munich, whose pizza and rosemary fries I can highly recommend.

Choose from the following languages: German, English.

You are welcome to pay in cash or with Paypal at the end of the tour ;)

An unexpected pleasure. Philipp guided us around areas of Munich we would never have seen on our own and we learned so much in a fun and engaging way.

Phillip is super nice, really knowledgeable and passionate architect. If you are into architecture and interested in visiting surprising, alternative places in Munich that you otherwise would probably not find, this is your tour! A different side of Munich!

This is an off-beaten path tour of avant-garde Munich, with street art, graffiti, upcycled structure, examples of innovative approach to design - not what you would expect from an architectural tour of a famous historic city. Take advantage of this opportunity to see the hidden treasures!
