Tour description

Take a walking tour of Central Park, starting at the South end of the park and ending at the Dakota Apartments, where John Lennon lived.   We will see key landmarks in the part including Bethesda Terrace fountain, numerous statues, Strawberry Fields, the Boathouse and the Sheep Meadow.   The pace will be leisurely with plenty of opportunities for memorable photos and convenient rest room breaks.   My aim is to give you a fun experience, with some information added, but not a history lesson.   There won't be a test at the end of the tour, just good times!

Highlights

What will we see on this tour?

Meeting point:
5th Ave & E 59th St, New York, NY 10019, USA
I will be at the northeast corner of 59th Street and 5th Avenue, the only corner at the intersection that is in the park. My purple baseball cap says Tour Guide on the front.
1
Outside visit
Central Park Zoo
The 6.5 acre Central Park Zoo sits near the southeastern entrance to the Park. The main zoo houses monkeys, polar bears, penguins, sea lions and much more. The Children's Zoo, added in 1961, is across from the main zoo near the Delacorte Clock. Our aim is to be at the clock before it is activated on the half hour.
2
Outside visit
Delacorte Clock
Activating every half hour, six bronze animals move along a track as the clock chimes and plays a variety of music.
3
Outside visit
Central Park Conservatory Fountain
You may recognize the boat pond from Stuart Little, made into a movie in 1999. Model boats, operated by both children and adult hobbyists, float in this beautiful pond.
