Samarkand Legends Tour: Walk the city of Myths
Tour description
Welcome to Samarkand! On this walking tour, we won’t just pass by centuries of architecture; we’ll unravel the myths and secrets they hold. This is a living, breathing journey led by someone who grew up hearing tales of conquerors, poets, saints, and dreamers.
We’ll begin at the Gur-Emir Mauseoleum, where the legendary Tamerlane rests beneath a tomb wrapped in mystery and power. I’ll share legends, rarely written down stories passed from voice to voice across generations.
Next, we’ll step into the awe-inspiring Registan Square, the very heart of ancient Samarkand. Surrounded by majestic madrasahs, you’ll see why scholars once called this place the cradle of knowledge in Central Asia.
At the Bibi-Khanum Cathedral Mosque, you'll feel dwarfed by the cosmic scale of its arch, a structure so vast, it's said to mirror the Milky Way itself.
We’ll pause at the Hazrat Khizr Mosque, built and rebuilt over centuries, holding within it the spirit of the city’s eternal resilience.
Finally, we’ll wander into the soul of Samarkand, the Shakhi-Zinda necropolis, a corridor of sapphire-tiled mauseoleums shrouded in silence and sacred history. This is where the legends say Kusam ibn Abbas, cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, lies in eternal rest.
Note: The entrance fees to mentioned places are not included in the tour price, and each of them can cost from $3 to $5.
