I was born in Budapest. Besides being a tour guide, I am a writer, journalist, playwright, and screenwriter. For me, stories represent the world and thus human understanding within it. That's why I am in love with Budapest, where the infinitely diverse facades, the musty walls of the historic castle district, and the spaces of modern communal areas tell mysterious and adventurous stories, just like the cobblestones beneath our feet, the facades above our heads, or the hidden pubs with their regular patrons. If you join me, I will not only show you the most beautiful and important sights of the capital city but also share some of the best stories it has with you.
We had an amazing experience with Robert as our GuruWalk guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable and brought the history and culture of Budapest to life in a way that was engaging, thoughtful, and fun. He kept the entire group involved throughout the tour, encouraged questions, and tailored the pacing perfectly. It was a chilly day, and Robert made sure to build in warm-up breaks and stops indoors so everyone stayed comfortable. Robert is a unique tour guide and it is clear he loves what he does. He brought local candy which he gave out for correct answers, he brought us to a cute coffee place for a coffee of our choice and a warm place to warm up while he continued to talk about things we could see outside the window, and he was the consummate storyteller. He shared many personal family stories as well as historical and current day stories. He was mindful of our time and as none of us had anyplace we had to be, he kept our tour going overtime which was great. Robert followed up with a photo of the group and a document with suggestions of things we could do and places we could eat at in the area and places off the beaten path.
Robert is a great guide and presentes us with a fantastic tour. He is genuinely passionate about Budapest, its history, and its curiosities. On top of that, he’s an excellent storyteller and even includes stories from his own family, which gives us a sense of closeness and familiarity with the city and everything it has to offer. The tour flies by, helped as well by Robert’s great sense of humour and the way he adapts his tone to the narrative he’s sharing. In short, a fantastic experience and one of the best free walking tours I’ve ever done (out of more than a dozen).
