Janis did a great job what is a difficult era to explain to someone who has never experienced oppression. Some of his own family’s experience was very interesting in trying to understand what life was like under the Soviets. It definitely helped us to get a better appreciation of the unwavering desire for freedom and independence of the Latvian people and indeed all Baltic states.

Emile was very knowledgable about soviet era Latvia and explained the history well and with passion for his country. I learnt a great deal about a challenging period of the country’s history.
