Tour description
We are a team of teachers of History of Uruguay. We invite you to participate in a traditional walking tour and sharing different stories, anecdotes and facts about the city. We can also guide you on other walks you want to make or create a tailor-made tour for another occasion! The tour includes: - Main city square: "Independence Square", with free admission to the mausoleum where the remains of the national hero Gral. Artigas are found and an explanation of the construction and meaning of the Salvo palace. - Puerta de la Ciudadela, ex-entrance to the walled city of Montevideo. - Walk along the pedestrian Sarandí, with explanations of emblematic buildings and shops. - Exterior visit to the main theater in the country, the "Solís". Explanations of its construction, history and current situation. - Arrival at Plaza Matriz, ex-main square of the colonial city. Explanations about it and the buildings around it (Church, Cabildo, Club Uruguay). - Free admission to the Mother Church. - Hike to Plaza Zabala and its ring road. Explanation of the creation of the plaza and the role of Mauricio de Zabala in the founding of Montevideo. - Walk through other less commercial areas of Ciudad Vieja, a pension area and finally, arrival at the Mercado del Puerto on the city's port boulevard.
