My name is Carlos! I am a passionate and dedicated tour guide with proven experience organizing trips through travel agents, tour operators and a customer service specialist with extensive knowledge and experience in the hospitality industry. I'm very interested in the cultural heritage and history of major cities to understand how urban planning can effectively provide better quality of life for citizens and protect the natural ecosystems within. I enjoy working for small boutique hotels that have implemented sustainability practices as a core business strategy. I love sports and especially eco-tourism activities like diving, zip lining and nature-based activities that involve active observation and interaction with wildlife, animals, plants, birds and marine animals.
If you want to enjoy a historical tour analyzing the origin of the name of the streets of the old town of Barcelona, this tour is for you.
I invite you to accompany me to know the origin of the name of the streets (also called etymology) of one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Barcelona, S ant Pere, Santa Caterina and la Ribera , located in the district number 1 of ' Ciutat Vella ' , (or old town)
This is a historical route that runs through the most medieval Barcelona from the beginning of the 12th century to the present day. During the tour of between 2h30 minutes and 3 hours (depending on the group) we will observe the relationship between the physical situation of some buildings and shops located in the surroundings of these three neighborhoods grouped into one. We will also visit emblematic buildings and places that were testimonies of historical events in the urban nucleus.
Below I detail the stops of the route so that you can get a slight idea of what you are going to be able to contemplate:
1. Palau de la Música Catalana.
2. Argenteria Street.
3. Plaza de Sant Pere and Monastery of Sant Pere de les Puel·les.
4. Calle del Rec Comtal.
5. Plaza and Convent of Sant Agustí.
6. Calle de la Princesa.
7. Plaçeta d'En Marcús.
8. Santa Caterina Market .
9. Montcada Street .
10. Plaza del Fossar de les Moreres. .
11. Basilica of Santa María del Mar.
12. Paseo and old Born market.
13. França station.
14. Ciutadella Park.
During this tour, I invite you to discover and ask us why many of the original names have disappeared or have been renamed due to the evolution of Catalan language, politics, industry and society in the capital of Barcelona.
There are many ways of understanding historical reality depending on the point of view or approach that is intended to be acquired.
Would you like to delve into the depths of old Barcelona and discover some of its best kept secrets?
You can find me at the entrance of the Palau de la Música, calle Amadeu vives corner with Calle de Sant Pere més Alt.
