Do you know about the Beverly Hills of Vienna? In the times of Fin de Siècle there was no place that was more popular: the Hohe Warte in Döbling! Based on the magnificent historic villas, the legendary Art Colony of Josef Hoffmann, the former largest football stadium in Europe and the health resort of Ludwig van Beethoven, we explore the rise and fate of most important personalities of their time.
Accompany me on a highlight tour through a green oasis in Vienna!
1) We meet in front of the terminal of the metro line U4 (Heiligenstadt), which you can reach in a few minutes from Vienna's city center. We start by visiting the Karl-Marx-Hof, the longest connected residential building in the world!
2) Then we take the public bus (2 stops) to Villa Hohe Warte and start our walk to the extraordinary villas of the richest and most influential personalities at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
3) On our way we also take a look at the legendary Hohe-Warte Stadium, once the largest football stadium in Europe.
4) The path with wonderful views of the city leads us to the world-famous Art Colony of Josef Hoffmann and his artist colleagues of the Viennese Art Nouveau.
5) We continue to explore the leftovers of the Rothschild Park, a place of the former wealthiest family in Europe and delve into the networks of the most influential personalities of the Habsburg Empire.
6) During a short stop at the Beethoven monument, we will have a look on the tragic life story of the brilliant composer and continue to the center of one of Vienna's oldest suburbs called Heiligenstadt.
7) After a short sidestep to the villa of Bruno Kreisky, the most important Austrian politician of the 20th century, the tour ends at the oldest restaurants and wine taverns in Vienna, which you are welcome to visit afterwards.
8) If you are interested, you will also receive hints for a subsequent walk to the Beethovengang in Nußdorf or to the Kahlenberg, the most beautiful vantage point of the city.
9) Whatever you decide, you can always take the public bus back to the starting point at the end of the subway line U4.
Take a camera with you!

Wir hatten eine super Führung, er hat sich viel Zeit genommen, obwohl wir nur zu zweit waren :) Super viel historisches Wissen und eine Menge spannende Anekdoten!
Michael makes a point doing the best. Has extensive knowledge on Art, History and Art History, as well as Literature and Culture as a whole. The best of all is his love for Vienna, and the intersection of all of this during his tours. I highly recommend him.
