Stone town is the birthplace of Zanzibar's history, religions, and cultures. It is the beating heart of Zanzibar, throughout the centuries it was a very important meeting point for all races of people. It was here the journey for the expedition of the discoveries for the source of the Nile river began in 1857, missionaries, sailors and slave traders have left their marks here. the evidence of their legacy is still seen in the populations, the cultures, and the architectures
Stone town walking tour takes you to the heyday when Zanzibar was the vast commercial empire in east Africa as the center of the slave trade, the land of spices, and the gateway to Africa
While walking in stone town you will see the vibrancy of cultures, religions, and the architecture that form landmark buildings of Zanzibar such as the old fort, sultan palace, the Anglican church, and catholic church, the house of wonder and the birthplace of freedy mercury as you pay tribute to his home.
The walking tour starts at Darajani market which is the central market to see the varieties of foodstuff produced in Zanzibar and the interactions and activities of local Zanzibaris in the market. The market has five sections meat section, fish, vegetables, fruits, and the spice section which is the most interesting section in the Darajani market then heading to explore the narrow alleyways, and the streetscape. the Zanzibar carved wooden door which is unique of its kind with distinctly carved decoration and learn its importance in the Zanzibar architecture as they present traditional features in Zanzibar architecture. Seeing the view of the stone town is a must as you marvel at the mixtures of the architecture and see the stunning scenery of the rooftop of stone town buildings along with the Indian ocean and the aerial view of the new town outskirt of stone town
If you love shopping and want to buy souvenir, the stone town has plenty of shops to complete your desire and lastly, we end up to visit freedy mercury house and our final stop will be at the British former club which is now known as the African house hotel to see how British embraced this place to spend their day after a long hour and even sometimes made this place their holiday destination.
