Bad Ragaz: from a farming village to a global health resort!
Tour description
Even Rainer Maria Rilke wrote a book about Bad Ragaz. The title describes our beautiful region:
"Being here is amazing!"
On my tour we meet at Rathausplatz and I give you general information about Bad Ragaz, the Sarganserland and Switzerland in general.
Then we start the tour, going to the Catholic Church , the Zurich War Memorial , the small fire brigade museum (former fire station) and to the place where ice from Lake Giessen used to be stored in winter .
You will then see the first generation of the thermal water pipeline from the source in the Tamina Gorge to Bad Ragaz .
Then you will see the former station of the funicular from Bad Ragaz to the Wartenstein.
Then the main theme begins, the history of baths and health . You will learn how spa tourism in Bad Ragaz has developed.
The tour ends at the memorial to Bruno P. Zehnder , the world famous penguin photographer who I knew personally before he died in Antarctica.
Of course, you will also receive lots of tips about the beautiful holiday region of Heidiland.
