Tour description

Do you love chocolate?

Guatemalans have grown and consumed cacao (chocolate) for 3,000 years, and the Maya introduced it to Europeans. Come learn about the history of Mayan production of chocolate, sample chocolates, and compare and contrast local chocolatiers while visiting landmarks and learning Antigua's colonial history.

None of the places we will visit charge an entrance fee, but tipping local artisans is appreciated. Wear sunblock, a hat, and comfortable shoes.

Highlights:

  • Visits to Mayan artisanal chocolatiers to learn the history of Mayan chocolate production by hand and its sacredness to the Maya where you can sample local artisanal chocolate
  • Visits to European-style high-end chocolatiers to sample and contrast
  • Royal Palace or Palace of the Captain General (Palacio de los Capitanes)
  • Town Hall
  • The Santa Catalina Arch
  • Church La Merced
  • Capuchinas
  • The Convent of Santo Domingo
  • Tanque la Unión
  • The Oldest University in Guatemala, The San Carlos University

I hope to meet you!! Sign up for a tour!

There is no fee for the tour. I do not accept "commissions" or kickbacks from any of the chocolatiers or shops we will visit. I work for you. You can reward me what you think is fair at the end.

Flavio was incredibly knowledge about the history of Antigua and shared just the right of information about all the places we stopped. Stopping by chocolate shops and getting free samples is a huge bonus!! Outside of the typical historical stops, Flavio also took me a great coffee shop and a local brewery based on my interests while I was in the city - a super tailored, informative, and FUN tour!

Flavio is an amazing tour guide who gave us a great tour of Antigua. It was the perfect balance of sightseeing, history, and chocolate. Throughout the tour. He was checking in on us, personalising it based on what we knew/interested us. Best walking tour we have ever done, and can't recommend enough

It was a great introduction to Antigua, and combined all of my interests - history, coffee and chocolate! Flavio is very knowledgeable about all of these topics, and his passion and energy for Antigua and its history was infectious. I especially appreciated the detailed information he provided about the colonial architecture of the various places we visited! Highly recommend this tour with Flavio if you’re in Antigua!
