Kansai Soul Food Tour: Authentic Japanese Edibles

I honestly do not recommand this Guru walk in its actual format which is to pay for the food before starting the tour and which is totally the opposite of what the guru walk spirit seems to be. You have the choice to pay c. 8k Yen or 12,5k Yen to experience some food in Osaka. Those fees are used to "cover the food expenditure". I went for the 1st option and tasted 3 different foods for a rough amount of 1,5k Yen so it means around 7k fees for the Guru. The Guru was in the end nice and explained many things about this specific district of Osaka and allowed me to discover traditional restaurants. But having to pay before the walk creates many issues * Less people coming to the tour (which is also part of the Guru walk experience) ; * Deceptive effect when you pay ar. $50 for something worth less than $10 * You expect more from the Guru when you actually paid a guide

I am rushing to write this review just to save someone from having this extremely overpriced experience. For three persons (“Option 2”) we paid 24500JPY (~150$). At the end of this tour, we didn’t learn anything about Japanese kitchen, except that they use lots of soya sauce, which is self evident. Nearly anything more about the food and its history was told. Also, guide said it will take 2hours, but in fact it took 1:30h. Lastly, I think its complete scam, because it says that the tour is free and that guide would collect money only for food. However, you give 150USD for the guy and you end up eating cheapest and crapiest street you can find which comes all together up to 20USD at best. This is clearly the worst money spent and the worst tour I have ever been on, which makes me think that reviews saying opposite are just fake.

Tolle Tour mit tollem Guide. Absolut empfehlenswert, wir hatten sehr kurzweilige 2 Stunden mit sensationellem Essen, fantastischen Eindrücken und einem wirklich unglaublich sympathischen Tourguide. Danke Maru, wir werden diesen Ausflug nie vergessen!

Fantastic tour! We learned so much about Osaka and Japan culture and history as well as food. Maru was so much fun, knowledgeable, patient, flexible, and kept us all entertained and wowed every minute! He has carefully cultivated the most amazing local restaurants and diverse food samples, in an area that we wouldn’t have found on our own. Maru is a fellow you would like to have as a friend. Highly recommend this tour!
