Hello, I am and I am a licensed tour guide in Turkey. I lived in Chile and Argentina and ten years ago I dedicated myself to translating books. Currently I have been working as a professional tourism guide for many years. My great passion is history, and especially that of Istanbul.
Hello traveler! Welcome to Istanbul.
Straight to the point!
Let's discover the main sites of the old city of Istanbul.
The purpose of this tour is to get to know the main attractions of the old city of Istanbul, and to make your experience in Istanbul smoother so that you avoid making mistakes that will cost you time and money.
What is old Istanbul? Ancient Istanbul is the heart of Constantinople: the center of the imperial city of the Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. Today we call it “Sultanahmet”, which takes its name from the Turkish name for the Blue Mosque: “Sultanahmet Mosque”, located right in the center of this area.
I will show you the locations of the historical places, tell their history, when and how to visit them, and the prices; I will also pass on useful tips.
The places we are going to visit:
I'm also going to give you information about the entire city, how to use public transportation, cheap prices for food, visiting hours for the main attractions, tips and tricks to make the most of the places you should visit.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
ATTENTION : We are going to visit the attractions OUTSIDE. Because Blue Mosque or Hagia Sophia can have long entrance lines that can take between 45 and 60 minutes in season. Topkapi Palace and the Basilica Cistern are ticketed museums, so we cannot enter them on a free tour. Visiting all of these places one by one usually takes 1-2 full days, even without guided tours.
ALSO : Guiding is my full-time profession. I have faith that I provide a lot of value to my guests. Therefore, I expect an amount between €10/$10 (300 Turkish lira) and €50 PER PERSON depending on my tour experience.
I will be waiting next to the Egyptian Obelisk (Obelisk of Theodosius) with a small BLUE flag. The obelisk is a giant stone column with ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, located in the center of the Hippodrome, which is located between the Blue Mosque and the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art.
Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person gives the guru at the end of the tour the amount that he or she considers appropriate (these usually range from €10 to $50 depending on satisfaction with the tour).
