The tour is incorrectly titled. It is not a vegan food tour. It is a lacto-ovo vegetarian tour and they do not inform you. The guide seemed to not know that the things with milk and eggs weren't vegan. Outside of this, he was very friendly, very helpful, interesting, a generally great guide! But! It was by sheer luck I did not order or sample more than a tiny bit of another guest's food with milk in it or eat more than a bite of something with egg in it. When finding this out by accident at the end by someone asking about ingredients of a food we were eating and him mentioning egg in it I asked him about earlier foods about egg and milk. He seemed unsure but concluded that only this had had egg and the other milk. If you have been vegan long (and for those unexpectedly reading this that aren't vegan, this might be news as to why this is so important an issue) you know that ingestion of animal products, especially milk, in one amount or another can cause us to become violently ill. After quizzing this tour guide very worriedly, and being unsure of his answer's solidity, it was very sweet of him that he seemed genuinely concerned over this misunderstanding about veganism and what I had eaten bits of and hoping I would be okay. It was a true mistake, he was a great person. The only issue is the danger to vegans when a guide does not know what veganism is and what we can and can't intentionally or safely eat. The guide was lovely and the tour very interesting and pleasant. However, the tour needs renamed and the guide(s) need to know what vegan means.

I booked a Vegan food tour, but wasn't surprised, after reading others reviews, that the group was mixed with another street food tour. This was great, because it meant we got to form a small group and everyone got to eat whatever they liked. Honestly, Sarah was the best guide, it felt just like I was having a night out with a friend. Her coordination of the various stops, the information she provided, questions she answered and her general good humour, made it one of my best nights in Hanoi. I highly recommend this tour.
