Free walking tours in Hangzhou

I have been on many guided tours, but this one was truly something special. Special thanks go to Haichuan, whose approach was so friendly and warm that it felt as if we were spending time with a friend rather than simply being guided on a tour. He shared many fascinating stories, not only about the history of Hangzhou and the Grand Canal, but also about a variety of other topics, including the modern Chinese car industry, while we walked along the marvelous shores of the canal. We enjoyed the experience so much that after the tour, we even went for tea at his favorite tea bar and continued our conversation there. I sincerely hope to stay in touch with him, and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a memorable and authentic experience. And by the way, his English is excellent. Matija

Very casual and spontaneous. We walked around multiple museums and look around the grand canal area. Very free flow and fun. Great tour to a lesser known area in Hangzhou outside of the west lake.

Jacky has enough knowledge of what he was talking about, brought us to good places to eat for lunch. Would recommend him to friends and family.

Cheryl is such an amazing person and guide! I had so much fun chatting, walking, and learning about Hangzhou. I like how we took our time to look at everything and eat yummy foods without feeling rushed. Cheryl is full of knowledge and information about everything we saw, and I learned so much from her. She even went above and beyond to help me with things beyond the tour, which I'm so very grateful for. If you love food and good company, definitely book this tour! You won't regret it.

This tour was great! We took a hiking path through the tea fields that I would never have been able to find on my own and Daniel was a great guide giving me a lot of information about everything we were seeing and he also spoke great English! Thanks a lot!

We enjoyed the tour with Cheryl, she went all out helping us with ordering food, explaining the food we were having, all were delicious! The visit to the local market was real fun, all the scenery, smell, sounds were mind blowing (in a positive way!). Definitely recommended, thanks Cheryl!

She knew all the great local and affordable spots and along the way she shared her local perspective of the good, culture, and the development of the city she grew up in. Tutu was a great tour guide. She had great knowledge about the temples and tea culture and had a beautiful route around west lake, which was a nice mixture of walking and biking around. She also had great recommendations for places to visit in Hangzhou and for the rest of my trip in China. Highly recommend to help experience the beauty around hangzhou!

I have to thank Jacky because he gave me full flexibility to choose the day even if I was going to be the only guest. He is prepared with diagrams that explain some basics in Buddhism and he knows exactly where to take you to see the best natural spots of Hangzhou. He is a remarkable guide and I would always choose him for a hiking tour.

Super fun tour with Jorge, very accommodating for my parents who needed pit stops to rest! Lots of sharing about interesting history bits along the canal and modern life in Shanghai. Really made our first trip to Hangzhou extra memorable!

Tutu has a great personality. She is very helpful and flexible. Her English is almost perfect. The location to meet was wrongly stated by google maps. We followed the coordinates and were at the wrong gate but she came to our rescue with a smile. She is very open to answer our questions. She had a nice surprise (entertainment) for us and we enjoyed our time with her. We took a shuttle bus and a rental bike as we asked for it. We highly recommend her !!!

Enjoyed the tour thoroughly! Tutu is knowledgeable about Chinese history. She’s fired my interest in Chinese culture and Hangzhou history and folk lore through the stories she told. Tutu conducted the tour in Chinese. I also like how the itinerary was a good mixture of cultural sights and activity (strolls and cycling) — starting from Faxi Temple, where we spent a fascinating hour going to the different halls of this huge complex, we cycled to the tea museum. There, we walked a short while among tea plants before going inside the museum.The tour ended at West Lake.

Hai Chuan was very friendly and shared much local insights to how the people here lives and how he grew up in Hangzhou. On the way we also did an impromptu visit to Lang Lang Music Museum as the weather was hot! Hai Chuan accommodated to our speed as we were travelling with a toddler.

I really enjoyed the tour with Cheryl. She is very kind, informative, patient and friendly. I would recommend the tour to anyone who wants to know more about local food and Chinese medicine (i even got a free diagnosis from a Chinese medicine doctor!!).

Excellent tour. Cheryl is a great guide and incredibly knowledgeable about local food and traditional Chinese medicine. The food at all the stops was amazing and not something I would have ever found on my own. Cheryl also recommended some great places for lunch/dinner and helped me get the tea I was looking for.
