The meeting address is Slottsbacken 2, opposite the high Gustaf III Obelisk. The guide will stand on the right hand of the entrance wearing a round company badge - "Gamla Stan Sightseeing". If you are unable to locate your guide, kindly refer to photo number 2, which is clearly marked with “Meeting Point.”

Slottsbacken 2 – Royals Next Door

Meeting point: Slottsbacken 2. Built in 1912 as housing for royal staff, Slottsbacken 2 was considered a scandal at the time – too large, too modern, and placed right across from the Royal Palace. Today it still houses members of the Royal Court, including the King’s sister.

Gustav III:s Obelisk: The King’s Giant “Thank You Note

This 30-meter granite monument was erected in 1800 as a royal thank-you to the citizens of Stockholm who defended the city during war with Russia. Originally planned by Gustav III but completed by his son Gustav IV Adolf, the obelisk was rebuilt in 2020 after the old stone cracked. Today it weighs nearly 300 tons and towers over Slottsbacken as a symbol of loyalty and resilience.

At Storkyrkan we explore 700 years of history – from the medieval cemetery where hundreds were buried, to the fiery sermons of reformer Olaus Petri, and the legendary statue of Saint George and the Dragon. Just around the corner stands a very different monument: Stockholm’s oldest public urinal from 1890, a quirky reminder of everyday life.
