Arkeo Tour was born from an idea of a group of youngs from Andalusia and Madrid who loved its History, culture and heritage. Our team is made up of great professionals with extensive experience in managing of tourist groups and cultural visits in different parts of Spain. Most of us have trained on the street, collaborating in different archaeological sites, art galleries and museums. We consider that our land has great heritage and cultural potential that must be valued for both residents and tourists. We do not believe that transmitting our history is bored. We want you to enjoy it. May you live the experience. And that you impregnate yourself with the vestiges of our past. Join this adventure with us!
Madrid, as the capital of Spain, is one of the places where we can find the most vestiges and memories of the bloody Civil War that shook the country between 1936 and 1939.
The city, seat of the Republican Government , was under Franco's siege for practically the entire conflict and was able to experience first-hand the harshest consequences of the conflict. Today these traces can still be perceived in its buildings, monuments, urban layout and traditions.
During our route we will get to know some of the main monuments and buildings erected to pay homage to Franco's victory in the Moncloa District. We will enter the Parque del Oeste to locate the forts that are still standing and that were used by the insurgents to continuously attack the city. We will go up to the Temple of Debod , where the rebellious Cuartel de la Montaña was once located, and from there we will be able to see Cerro Garabitas , one of the places from which the center of Madrid was bombarded with howitzers. We will also visit the Conde Duque Barracks , which remained loyal to the Republic until the end and, later, we will walk to places that served to shelter the most precious assets of churches and palaces or anti-aircraft shelters to protect citizens from bombs. We will arrive at the old Escuelas Pías de San Antón , which served as a checkpoint and prison during the 1930s and we will end our tour on Madrid's Gran Vía , next to the Telefónica Building , from whose roof the Republican side watched Franco's advances through the Casa de Campo .
We have designed an educational and entertaining route so that you can learn all the details of this important historical event in Madrid.
