Discover the Gijón of today and yesterday calmly

Duration: 2h and 30min
Languages: Spanish
Guru: Rosa
Registered on July 05, 2020

I am a local tourist guide and illustrator of travel guides in watercolors along with explanations about the place drawn. I love teaching the history and stories of cities and reflecting the most beautiful corners in watercolors. I started in this many years ago as a volunteer teaching the city to different choral groups that came to the city to sing and I ended up singing myself and training in the tourism field.

Tour description

Spain is different... but Gijón more.
In Gijón everything is big (Molinón, mareona, acerona...) or small (rinconin,,,) we baptize everything even though... it already has its name (las chaponas, la lloca, el parchis...), we dress up monuments like Pelayo, we laugh at ourselves or we are moyaos or shallow ass, we even had a Chinese shallow that drank panther's milk and even..... an executioner!!!!!!
You can discover all this and more on this visit to the fishing village that is Gijón.

Gijón are stories , stories of the people who made it grow, from Jovellanos (he became Minister of Justice with Carlos II) to the cigarette makers in the Plaza del Lavaderu, to

We will walk through its seaside neighborhood, the cradle of the city with streets that still retain the popular air, or we will slowly contemplate the corners of the neighborhood with its palaces or popular squares where you can stop to have a cider, a popular and native drink.

During the 2 and a half hours that we will be together you will discover that Gijón or Xixon is full of charming corners.

Taking Campo Valdés as a starting point, next to the Church of San Pedro (on the beach) we propose a quiet walk through the historic center of the Cimadevilla neighborhood, origin of the city and birthplace of Jovellanos, visiting the Plaza del Lavaderu , or Soledad , a walk through the port where we will talk about the stories of the fishwives who went up to the voice of "there are sardines" down the cholo slope to sell their merchandise ... and if you still have We will give you tips for taking a short walk through the streets of the most commercial center and contemplating 19th century Gijón and the beginning of the 20th century with its modernist or Art-Déco architecture.

In short, everything that has given it its current character.
