Free Tour of the Patriarch of Lisbon
Tour description
We begin the visit in Portela D. Afonso Henriqques and we climb the Sintra mountain to the parish of S. Pedro de Penaferrim. We will pass through the most beautiful views of Sintra and enjoy a perspective of the magnificent Pena National Palace with a view over the old Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Pena that, today we see decorated with the color red. Arriving at the parish of S. Pedro de Penaferrim we have the Moto Clube de Sintra. One of the points of interest to understand, also, the dynamics and life of the population and the visitors who come from different parts. The St. Peter's Basilica is decorated inside by one of the most prodigious artists of Portuguese-style ceramic painting. The interior contrasts with the rigor of the exterior. The scenes from the life of S. Pedro acquire a dimension that values the art of ceramic painting itself. When the Patriarch of Lisbon was appointed in 1730, he decided to rebuild the church of S. Pedro. On the threshold of the main door we can see the symbol of the Patriarch, in low relief. On the way back we go down to the center of Sintra.
