Free Tour - Alternative Helsinki
My name is Jonna, the person behind Rento Helsinki Tours. I have six years experience in tour guiding. I started my career in 2016 when I was living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I moved to Helsinki 2018 and continued leading tours, but this time in the city that I love the most. In spring 2021, I decided to take a big step and started my own walking tour business, Rento Helsinki Tours. Rento is my favorite word in Finnish, it means "easy-going, relaxed, chill", and that's the word that describe me and also my tours. For 1,5 years now I've been offering unique, local experiences in Helsinki in four languages, English, Finnish, Spanish & Portuguese. I'm interested about history and culture, and on my tours you'll hear many anecdotes about the Finnish society. I was born in a small town two hours north-east from Helsinki, and that's where my love towards nature comes from. When I'm not touring Helsinki with travelers, I enjoy going to the forest, sip craft beer with my friends in some cool pub in Helsinki, or going to one of Helsinki's many public saunas.
Tour description
Welcome to know the real Helsinki! In this experience, you can forget about the famous monuments and must-sees. Come to know the Kallio neighborhood , the old workers' district, which has a lot of history, culture and social movement. You are going to learn about parts of Finnish history usually forgotten by tourist guides. You will visit a local neighborhood, full of exotic bars, restaurants and shops and you will understand much more about Finnish society.
The tour passes through the areas of Hakaniemi and Kallio, knowing the architecture of the area. Where did Lenin hide in September 1917? Where does the former president of Finland usually go for her coffee? How important were the Kallio workers during Prohibition in the 1920s?
We learn about Finnish history, from a different point of view.
We will get to know the most important buildings in Kallio, such as Kallio Church, Kallio Library, Big Bridge , Hakaniemi Old Market and much more. After the tour we will give you recommendations on authentic restaurants, cheap bars and unique events happening in the city.
Book your tour with me, and you will have a complete, true and different picture of Helsinki and its inhabitants.
