Swahili & Kariakoo Adventure: Learn the Language, Dive into the Market!"

Duration: 1h

I’m Kevin Angelo I’m Tanzanian through and through, with a misplaced affinity for cheesy romance movies (who doesn’t love Titanic!) and Country and Western music (something my friends are forever teasing me about). The first thing you’ll notice about me is that I love meeting new people and making them smile. The second is that I have a deep passion for and knowledge of my home country. You’ll have me on hand to help and advise you before, throughout, and even after your tour. After booking your place on my tour, you’ll receive some personal pre-travel advice on Tanzanian etiquette, and a little on the language – starting with; ‘how on earth do you pronounce Ngorongoro?’ A few things you should know about the people of Tanzania: we love to smile, laugh, sing, dance, and have fun (any excuse!) We wear our hearts on our sleeves and form friendships quickly and naturally. In fact, in my native language, Kiswahili, the word ‘mgeni’ meaning ‘foreigner’, is the same as the word for ‘guest’. Here you are not a tourist but a new companion, and that is the feeling I want you to experience as your personal host. Karibu nyumbani! Tanzania welcomes you home!

Tour description

They say the best way to learn a language is to start speaking it. Join me on this exciting combined experience that guarantees you'll be conversing with the locals by the afternoon! We'll kick off the day by immersing you in the enchanting world of Kiswahili, a language known for its beautiful phonetics and melodies.

Prepare to be amazed as we delve into the origins of this language, discovering words you might already know, even if you're not aware of it! Rest assured, this won't be your typical guidebook Swahili. We'll jump right into the most commonly used words, greetings, and essential phrases for ordering food and buying goods.

Once you're feeling confident with these key phrases, get ready to dazzle the stallholders at the vibrant Kariakoo market. I dare you to engage them in flawless Swahili - and don't worry, I'll be there every step of the way. Laughter, amusement, and music will accompany us as we equip you with a toolkit of introductory Swahili. Be prepared for an unforgettable experience!

I felt we went beyond a guide-client conversation while walking with Kevin in the Kariakoo market. Also practicing swahili basics during the tour it’s the greatest way of getting involved in the Dar atmosphere.
