Discover Lincoln Free Walking Tour
Tour description
In your Discover Lincoln free walking tour, I'll take you on a journey to discover the 5000-year story of one of England's most historic cities.
Uncover the Celtic origins of Lincoln, learn how it became one of the most important settlements in Roman Britain, and discover why the city's medieval citizens constructed the one-time tallest building in the world: Lincoln Cathedral.
Along the way, you'll meet some intriguing characters who made Lincoln their home over the centuries, including Flavius Helios, a Greek immigrant to Roman Britain, St Hugh of Avalon and his overprotective pet swan, and future President of Ireland Éamon de Valera who escaped from Lincoln Prison in 1919 using a novel disguise.
The Tour includes free entry to The Collection museum. Entry to the Cathedral and or Castle and Magna Carta exhibit can be added at an extra cost, subject to availability.
Lincoln is renowned for its very steep hill (creatively called Steep Hill), so a reasonable level of fitness is required to complete the tour. Good walking footwear is also strongly recommended. Please contact me to discuss options if you have mobility issues.
