Tour description

Know and feel the events that changed a country's history, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a sovereign life. This tour shows you how the events of January 9, 1964, occurred, the date that marked Panama's history forever. See the route that Panamanian students took to raise the flag within the American territory and everything that happened before, during, and after.
Let me show you what life was like on the other side of the fence; what life was like in a country within another country.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • National Institute
  • Administration Building
  • Canal Zone

ITINERARY

  • We will meet inside the historic walled city and from here we going to walk to The Central Ave, specifically towards the National Institute, the first center for higher studies of Republican Panama. This is a majestic building from 1911 with Renaissance and Italian Baroque style. The building shows Egyptian and possibly Persian mythic elements.
  • After an introduction, start the walking tour through Santa Ana to emulate the martyrs' route that fateful January 9. We will cross the former division between the two countries to finally get to the former Canal Zone.
  • On the other side, continue walking in the direction to the Balboa´s High School, where the confrontation started.
  • After explaining what happened before, during, and after this event that marked Panama forever, we will visit the Administration Building, an excellent architectural piece of art that was and is the Panama Canal's eyes.
  • From here we will take the same path back to Herrera Park, where the tour will end.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT

  • The Guruwalk platform has a free tour policy, yes it is true, but as you will understand, the free category indicates that to make a reservation it is not necessary to contact a travel agency or a tour operator, where a tour of this type costs up to 50.00 per person.  Instead of this, a free reservation can be made directly with the Guide.  However, it should be known that the Guide is a professional with years of experience, graduated and specialized in Geographical, Ecological, Historical and Cultural Tourism.  That also works for very renowned agencies.  Therefore, I expects to be gratified according to my knowledge and the service provided. I'm not a chatterbox or just a storyteller and I dont do tours for 5.00 $ per person.
  • Payments or tips are not accepted by Paypal or other applications.  Make sure you have enough cash before attending the tour.
  • With all my respects, I ask the ladies to take in consideration that we will walk through places that are not so touristy and with a different culture and education, so you must be prudent with your clothing ( not very short pants, miniskirts, very low cut blouses), to avoid hearing ungentlemanly phrases.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

  • This tour will begins at the Tomas Herrera Plaza and will end in the same place, and the clients must reach the meeting place on their own. It would help if you have the desire to learn and have a good time and a spirit of adventure.
  • This tour will take in between 2 hours and 2 and a half hours, but we will appreciate your flexibility for small changes.
  • This tour only tries to cover the story as it happened, trying to be partial without hurting feelings or taking sides. You are asked to have an open mind and remember that there are always two parts or versions in every story.
  • Although this is a tour suitable for anyone, walking is required to recreate that moment. It is requested to have this into consideration at the time of booking.

IMPORTANT BOOKING ADVICE

  • When you make your reservation, you will receive a confirmation and a message through the Guru platform.  One day before the date of the tour I will contact you again to reconfirm your attendance;  If I dont get a response, it could be assumed  that you will no longer attend the event.
  • If you plan to take this tour immediately you arrive in Panama City and your flight does not land at least 4 hours before the tour; there is a big possibility that you will not arrive on time for it.
  • The tour may be canceled if the minimum number of participants required is not reached or due to weather conditions.
  • Please keep an eye on your email; in case the tour must be canceled you will be informed through this channel.
