Tour description

One of the best known and the most influential minorities of Split has historically been the Jewish people.
Present from the very beginnings of the Diocletian palace and the city, the Jews of Split have left an indelible mark on the city's history especially following their expulsion from Spain after 1492. On our way we will visit the main sights associated with Jewish heritage in Split, including: 

  • The site of the first known synagogue
  • The city port
  • The modern day synagogue
  • The traditional Jewish quarter - the ghetto - 
  • The old Jewish cemetery at the first viewpoint of Marjan Hill, offering a spectacular panorama of the city centre.

I had a great tour with Duje! Even though I was the only person it never felt awkward. He gave a lot of interesting information but also told me little anecdotes, that helped me understand the history of Split, Croatia and the jewish community better.

He was very professional and very knowledgeable! We were very impressed when he gave the tour in spite of the weather and that it was just myself and my daughter on the tour . He drew our attention to a lot of areas we would not have noticed on our own and his grasp of history was truly amazing. We learned so much on our tour regarding the city of Split and it’s Jewish history. We would highly recommend it!
