Hi everyone! This is Marcius I have a degree in History and I love reading every day about the Ancient Times. I'm an official tour guide for the city of Rome and the Vatican. In addition to Guru Tours, I work with the big Roman tourism agencies that organize classic tours inside the Archaeological Park of Colosseum. I've been thinking about doing some tours occasionally to see what it's like. I liked it and continued to offer this type of tour in my free time. P. S... THIS IS NOT AN AGENCY. SO, THE TOURS ARE GUIDED ONLY BY MY SELF.

Tour description

 Hello everyone!
Thank you for booking this tour.
Why you should choose my tour?
For the following reasons :

  • For a deep understanding of one of the most Iconic Site of the Classical World.

  • The historical circumstances that influenced  the construction of the Amphitheatrum Flavium (Colosseum today)
  • The human and economic resources used for the construction of it.
  • The main games inside the Amphitheatrum as,

1.Venationes, hunting and killing animals.

2.Public executions, which were psysical and psychological torture.

3.Gladiatorial combats, life of a gladiator in his naked reality away from the movie fiction, mostly being slaves which were dehumanized by Romans, the people being transformed "into cattle, into a tool".

  • The crowd, thrilled by the shows put in place by the authorities.
  • The roman mob wishing more and more blood than in previous games. They're hungry and thirsty for them.
  • Casualties during the centuries inside the Colosseum in terms of humans and animals.
  • I'll provide you photos to compensate the fact that we don't get inside the Colosseum.
  • The stories I'm going to tell you come from historical books written by important historians.

I'll be in OUTSIDE the bar " CAFFÈ ROMA" Largo Gaetana Agnesi 1, displaying my name : MARCIUS. The bar is located at the TOP of the metro station COLOSSEO. To get to the CAFFÈ ROMA bar, the easiest way is the subway. If you come on foot, remember that the bar is located above the Colosseo metro station. You have to enter the metro stop,Colosseo, immediately turn left, take the stairs that takes you upstairs. Once outside , immediately on the right is the bar. I will be there. Come 15 minutes earlier if you need a toilet. Inside the bar there is the possibility to use it if you buy something, a coffee, etc. In Rome to use the toilet you have to buy something. A coffee, water etc and then the bathroom is free.

    Outside visit
    Colosseum

We'll start the tour from the meeting point { Caffè Roma}, going to the Northern side of the Colosseum making than a WHOLE WALK AROUND IT. WE DON'T GET INSIDE THE COLOSSEUM!

  • 2
    Outside visit
    Via Sacra

The Via Sacra (or ‘Sacred Way’) was the main street to lead travellers and citizens into the main centre of business, known as the Forum. It was also used to establish the religious faith of Roman people to any newcomers, by displaying their temples at the Forum’s entrance.

  • 3
    Outside visit
    Arch of Constantine

It was erected in 315 AD by the Roman Senate to commemorate Constantine I’s victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312 AD.

  • 4
    Outside visit
    Arch of Titus

The majestic triumphal arch is dedicated to the Emperor Titus and was constructed in the years following his death in 81 CE. The monument celebrates his victory over Jerusalem in 70 CE. and the annexation of Judaea to the Roman Empire. Roman Jews would always refuse to walk under this archway. It was only after the birth of the State of Israel that they crossed it, but this time in the opposite direction to that of the triumphal procession.

  • 5
    Outside visit
    Temple of Venus and Rome

On a high base overlooking the Colosseum Valley stands the temple that Hadrian wanted to dedicate to the goddess Roma Aeterna and the goddess Venus Felix. It is the largest sacred building built by the Romans, and one of the largest in antiquity.

  • 6
    Outside visit
Area del basamento del Colosso di Nerone

Today, nothing remains of the Colossus of Nero save for the foundations of the pedestal at its second location near the Colosseum. It was possibly destroyed during the Sack of Rome in 410, or toppled in one of a series of fifth-century earthquakes, and its metal scavenged.

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Marcius, who is an excellent tour guide. Marcius vividly described the history of the Colosseum and the gruesome games held there. We were lucky we ended up having a private tour so that Marcius could tailor the tour to give enough detail to engage our teenage son without being too graphic. I'd highly recommend the tour and in hindsight we should have paid him more. Thank You Again.

Not the best walking tour in Rome, it was boring. The site have way more potential of what the guide shows, I guess I was expecting too much.
