As I have been studying, working and living in Marrakech for many years, I am happy to bring the past to life for you with our journey together through this vibrant city.
The tour will begin in front of the Koutoubia Mosque, by the white shrine. I will text guests with my exact location before the tour begins.
The Koutoubia Mosque, is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture and is the largest mosque in Marrakech. Its minaret, reaching 77 meters high, dominates the skyline. An iconic symbol of Marrakech, the Koutoubia Mosque invites visitors to admire its elegance and appreciate its historical significance. Other buildings, like the Giralda of Seville and Hassan Tower of Rabat.
Bab Agnaou is one of the historical landmarks in Marrakech, Morocco. It's a beautiful gate that dates back to the 12th century, showcasing intricate Islamic architecture. It's definitely worth visiting if you're in Marrakech!
Built in the late 19th century, the Bahia Palace is a testament to Moroccan craftsmanship and architectural grandeur. Commissioned by Grand Vizier Si Moussa, and later enhanced by his son Ba Ahmed, the palace showcases intricate tilework, beautiful gardens, and opulent rooms. "Bahia" means brilliance, and the palace truly lives up to its name, reflecting the wealth and taste of its original inhabitants. Today, it stands as a key historical and cultural landmark, offering a glimpse into Morocco's rich past.
The Jewish Quarter, known as the Mellah, is a historic neighborhood in Marrakech. Established in the 16th century, it was initially created to house the Jewish community. The Mellah features narrow streets, traditional architecture, and a mix of residential and commercial spaces. While the Jewish population has diminished over the years, the Mellah remains an area of cultural significance. Visitors can explore synagogues, markets, and experience the unique atmosphere of this historical district.
You will experience the day to day life of the old Medina as you immerse yourself in the narrow alleys. The Souks of Marrakech are certainly the most colourful and vibrant in Africa. You will get a better understanding of Moroccan culture as you explore shops for hand-crafted slippers, traditional woodwork, brass, iron and bronze handicrafts, jewelry, kaftans, carpets, spices, and pottery.
