Tour description

TOUR “Amsterdam Fundamental” Ignacio - Architect

Welcome to my new tour or cultural project for the 2024-25 season , which allows me as an architect and experienced guide to show you the city in a very entertaining way. We start walking and immediately tell what we are seeing in a very didactic way. Architecture, canals, history, art and much more, from the 13th century to the 21st century, we will also have photo support to illustrate the explanations.

The tour is varied in places and themes , always with my personal stamp. We start at Dam Square and end the tour with a fantastic view of the Amstel River. My goal: That they receive a broad cultural spectrum based on discovering, understanding, knowing, being surprised, and having a great time, and if we feel like stopping for a coffee, a juice or a beer, the idea is to have a great time and get to know Amsterdam!! (I suggest reading tourist reviews for my other tours).

STARTING POINT OF THE WALK : Het National Monument which is a white column, located in Dam Square . I carry a white umbrella with black letters that says SPANISH , nothing more. without colors or flags. By WhatsApp I will send you my photo, map and photo of the starting point. See you!

PLACES WE WILL VISIT AND EXPLAIN:

Origin of the city: from the swamp and mud Amsterdam appeared to the world hundreds of years ago.

Royal Palace of Amsterdam: It represents the enormous power in the golden age. At this point we open a range of events in the history of Holland.

Courts , place of beheadings and hangings in the 17th century.

Monarchy : place of weddings, coronations and abdications of Dutch sovereigns. 16th - 17th centuries

Orphanage or Orphan House, from 1581.

Ex-Amsterdam Central Post Office , 19th century.

National Monument - Obelisk that reminds us of the victims in World War II.

SECOND WORLD WAR : Holocaust, Anne Frank , Jews in Amsterdam: deportations, hiding places, winter of hunger and the horror of the Nazi occupation.

Houses – boats or houseboats. An unusual way of life, its origin and curiosities.

Slavery, Colonialism , its traces in the city.

JEWISH DISTRICT

Dancing Houses , an unmissable classic.

De Nieuwe kerk : 15th century church

Small, amazing houses in Amsterdam.

Golden Age of Holland , 17th century. Expressed in commerce, art, science and architecture, we will see and enjoy canals and architecture of the rich bourgeoisie, unique in the world.

Begijnhof Convent - 15th century. Blessed who helped the dispossessed, rebellious, cultured, emancipated, powerful and mysterious. A medieval landmark.

Nieuwmark t (New Market) year 1614.

ART - HOUSE OF REMBRANDT, baroque painter and his world. Impossible to forget it. His work, his environment and his life are present in our tour in Amsterdam.

Zuiderkerk - South Church - (1614), admired by the painter Monet, and a horrible fate in the Second World War.

VOC building of the Dutch Merchant Navy - 17th century. A fascinating chapter of routes around the world in the 17th century.

• Exceptional wooden house from 1420 in the heart of the city.

RED LIGHT LIGHT : I prepare the tourist to visit the Red Light District. with a lot of information to consider during your visit, the same for those who have already been and did not understand what they have seen. The last point of the tour is the border with the Red Light District.

• • SEVERAL
Unique architecture in the world, heritage canals, fossils, panoramic views, to enjoy, all combined with the daily life of Amsterdammers that will surprise us: bicycles, boats, celebrations, and spontaneous and surprising “Dutch” events that will appear to us during the tour.
The tour ends at Niuwmarkt. For various reasons it may happen that you have to replace one place with another.

==> IMPORTANT INFORMATION : <==

Reservations : There is a limit of 4 people per reservation, fractional reservations of the same group are not accepted, reservations of 5 participants or more must pay a suggested basic contribution of €13.00 pp.

Remember: Write a phone number with WhatsApp , to send you my photo and map of the meeting point, also for any inconvenience or send you location in real time in case you are late.

Punctuality : Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of the tour, to depart on time, as sometimes there are people who must return to the airport or the train after the tour.

Waiting time : 5 extra minutes for latecomers. The person who does not notify, or does not arrive after the extra minutes, allows me to hand over the position to other tourists.

Minors : The tour is not suitable for minors , since the Red Light District is part of my story and is for people with trained criteria or minors accompanied by their parents.

• The Municipality of Amsterdam charges a tourist tax rate of €2 pp, which is paid before starting the tour and has no relation to the value of the event itself.

SUGGESTIONS

• Do not hire or sign up for another activity for at least one hour after the end of the tour to replenish energy and to have time to arrive at the other activity in a relaxed manner and without schedules clashing.

• Check the weather forecast, wear clothing suitable for cold or heat, sun protection, and an umbrella or raincoat, if the weather warrants it.
