San Salvador de Chora and Byzantine Walls: Walking tour in Spanish along the sixth hill.
Tour description
Edirnekapi, a humble, conservative neighborhood of the city, home to wonders such as the Adrianople Gate, the Chora Gate, and the only Byzantine palace still standing, is located at the top of Constantinople's sixth hill. A stroll through its streets will allow us to take an intense journey through the city's history. We will be able to contemplate the majestic walls that protected its inhabitants for a thousand years; we will see, from the outside, the jewel of Byzantine art, the Chora Gate, a must-see for art lovers who want to be amazed. We will also visit the Mirihmah Sultan Mosque, the most elegant of the mosques built by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan, and learn about its romantic legend. We'll see the Martyrs' Cemetery, the traditional colorful houses, and much more on a two-and-a-half-hour walk through a lesser-known and less-visited neighborhood, but one that's definitely a must-see in Istanbul for those who want to discover a part of Constantinople that's much less visited by tourists, but no less surprising for that. All of Constantinople is a gem!
At the end of the tour, admission to San Salvador de Chora will be provided for those wishing to do so (optional). The price is currently €20 and no advance purchase is required.
NOTE: Appropriate clothing is required for entering mosques and suitable footwear for steep, cobblestone streets.
Reservations for 6 or more people in one or more reservations have special conditions, requiring a commitment to pay €10 per person.
An IstanbulKart transport card is recommended, but not required.
