Guided Tour – Nazis in Madrid
Tour description
After the end of World War II, Spain remained under the Francoist regime, an authoritarian system that, although it tried to diplomatically distance itself from the Axis once the conflict was over, had maintained clear sympathies and collaborations with Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany during the previous years and throughout the war. This ideological and political affinity not only left its mark on the structure of the State but also turned the country into a refuge for numerous Nazi leaders and collaborators who managed to escape international justice.
Madrid, as the capital of the regime, became one of the most active centers of Nazi presence, both during the war years and in the immediate post-war period. Key institutions were located in its streets, such as the German embassy, cultural and social centers linked to the Third Reich, as well as residences of influential Nazi figures who found protection in Spain.
