Tour description
London is the city with perhaps the greatest literary history in the world... And there are very few walks that guide you in the footsteps of many of the greatest writers that have made their home in this city.
The Bookish History Tour of Southwark guides you in the footsteps of Shakespeare, Dickens, Keats, Geoffrey Chaucer and several others.
My name is Adam, I am a local writer and poet, and I am passionate about the wonderful bookish history of London.
All tours begin at The George, the most literary pub in London, with tales of Dickens and the rich and colourful history of the Borough of Southwark.
We then pay visits to Geoffrey Chaucer (the author of the Canterbury Tales), John Keats, and Dickens again - with nods to Zadie Smith and other contemporary British writers.
We conclude the tour in Shakespeare's old stomping ground - with the tour ending just outside the Globe by the River Thames.
The Bookish History Tour of Southwark is not an ordinary history tour, as it combines classic history tour with readings and excerpts from some of the finest writing ever put to page.
