Essential Free walking tours of Athens

If you are trying to decide which walking tour to take in Athens, I cannot recommend this tour enough. Our group of six are quite frequent walking tour users, and we all agreed that this was easily one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. Our guide, Alessandro, was incredibly structured and interesting, striking the perfect balance with the information he shared. All the facts and stories were highly relevant and engaging without being too extensive, and he was more than happy to answer any questions we had along the way. Beyond the content, Alessandro’s delivery style was excellent. He is fluent in English, very easy to understand, and speaks up clearly so that everyone in the group can hear him without effort. The route he chose was very nice and felt much more thoughtful than other tours we have tried in Athens in past years. It really gave us a fresh perspective on the city. What made the three hours fly by was the perfect pacing and Alessandro’s friendly personality. He even planned a short coffee and restroom break in the middle of the tour, which meant the duration never felt too long or exhausting. The distance covered and the speed of the walk were just right for our group. We are all very happy with the tour and truly thankful to have had such a great guide :)

I have done many GuruWalks and Alex is definitely among the best in terms of style, presentation and approach. Easy to understand and easy in nature, he communicates really well and ensures the whole group is included and engaged.

Excellent tour, highly recommended

Fantastic tour! We visited some important sites on our walk through the city, learning a lot about historic and modern-day Athens from our excellent guide on a pleasant stroll with her four-legged sidekick. Alexia is highly personable, enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and did a brilliant job of keeping everyone in the group engaged throughout. I highly recommend this tour, especially for a first-time visitor to the city, to help get your bearings and to pick up lots of valuable tips and recommendations from a very friendly local.

This was an exceptional tour, and it wasn’t just because it was Athens in the sunshine, it was our guide, Alex who truly made it. The places visited and the knowledge and history passed on was fantastic. We wouldn’t have visited half of the places that Alex took us. The pace was great, good verity of stops with a break in the middle. Alex was funny, knowledgeable and seemed to genuinely enjoy chatting to all members of the group. He explained things really well, and provided some really useful tips on what to do, and where to go, all on a great list via a QR code. Take this trip at the start of your stay in Athens, it’s a good one to orientate yourself and learn about the city. Highly recommended.

Die Tour mit Alexia und Kefte hat richtig Spaß gemacht, war informativ und sehr unterhaltsam! Neben umfangreichem historischen Wissen zeigt Alexia Humor und sie ist sehr quirlig und hat immer ihre Gruppe im Blick (buchstäblich, sie läuft rückwärts die meiste Zeit 😃), beantwortet Fragen und schickt im Nachhinein per WhatsApp noch Tipps zu Restaurants etc. Sehr empfehlenswert!

It was great, Alexia is very knowledgeable. Lots of lots of info, sometimes it was hard to remember all of it :D. Alexia like to keep the group size small, so you can have a personal experience, which is great. However, if the group is small, and someone cancels, you might end up alone, and it doesn't make sense to make a free walking tour just for one person :).

William was brilliant, really informative and passionate about history, Athens, and the food! One of the best walking tours we've done, timed well to avoid crowds, see the changing of the guards and great stories.

Our guide was friendly, funny and insightful. We would not have visited half of the places we stopped at on our tour, had we not taken part. The pace was easy, his stores were interesting, but the only thing I’d flag is that the beginning of the route is quite steep. However that’s nothing to do with the guide, and everything to do with where attractions are located.
