Free walking tours in Kunming

We took six Guru walks in China over 20 days, and Lenxi was the best guide we had, and we had some good ones. Her walk was a nicely-paced exploration of local neighborhoods, restaurants, shops, cafes and local life, including an interesting walk through the university. We ended up having lunch together in a Dai restaurant where she showed us local foods we would not have discovered otherwise. What a great experience!

We really enjoyed our free walking tour with Lei. She not only shared interesting information about the history of Kunming, Dali, and Yunnan but also answered our many questions about every day life and recommended places to eat and drink the famous Yunnan tea. She has shared some further travel recommendations with us even after the tour. Her English is very good and the way she leads the tour is well paced and very engaging. If you make a stop in Kunming (which is really worth it), you shouldn't miss the tour with Lei!

Great tour with Leo! Outside of Kunming in a charming, old fisherman town. Nearby we also went to a forest area near the lake. Learned more about the local culture and life in Yunnan.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour with Lei. Beyond the beautiful historical and cultural sites of Kunming, Lei provided fascinating insights into Chinese history, including the Century of Humiliation and its lasting influence on modern China. The explanations were clear, engaging and thought-provoking throughout the tour. Lei is exceptionally knowledgeable and passionate, and we truly appreciated the opportunity to learn so much while spending time with such a lovely person. We highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in discovering the deeper history and culture of Kunming.

My wife and I really enjoyed this walk through Kunming’s daily life and its younger, more spontaneous side. Together with Linxi, we explored charming hipster neighbourhoods full of cafés, local shops and hidden corners that we would never have found on our own. Linxi was incredibly down-to-earth, warm and easy to talk to, which made the experience feel more like spending time with a local friend than joining a tour. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone wanting to discover a more authentic and lively side of Kunming.

This tour was the first ever tour I booked on GuruWalks and it really surprised me in a positive way. Linxi was so nice and really fun to talk to. It felt like a intimate experience and not like a forced, touristy one like big company's offer sometimes. Thanks to the wonderful impression Linxi made, I will definitely book more tours in other cities too!

I had a wonderful time exploring Kunming with Linxi. Walking tours are my favorite pastime whenever arriving in a new city, and as a first-time traveler to Kunming embarking on a group motorcycle tour across Yunnan, having her as a walking guide to ease me into the city was the perfect start and welcome. I barely noticed the rain! What sets Linxi apart is her extensive local knowledge, her background as a language teacher, and her willingness to share her passions. She speaks excellent English which is clear, humorous, and easy to follow. I almost mistook her for being international. If you are interested in this city, local culture, or want a guide who can actually help you navigate the nuances of Mandarin, she is the perfect choice as she didn't laugh at my clumsy attempts . She is professional, punctual, and knowledgeable about her hometown. She gave me lots of useful tips on where to find local delicacies after the tour, which indicated to me that food is a favorite pastime here leaving me wanting to discover more. If she finds time between teaching and touring, I would like to take her culinary tour with the tasting option to also refine my Mandarin with some new words and phrases. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kunming, especially if you value a guide with an understanding of linguistics & education and a passion for food. Thank you, Linxi!

Linxi has just started her guiding activity in Kunming and we were so lucky to be her first guests. She took us for a wonderfull tour arround Cui Lake, local Universities and bookshops. We took some coffee and had local food together. She was the first person in China who could tell us a lot of interesting things about the country in English. Her English is very good and she even speaks Spanish! Join her for guided tour :)
