Lyon Between Two Eras: Art, History, and Secrets

Un guía muy dinámico y expresivo, nos contó desde la historia hasta las rutinas de los actuales habitantes de Lyon, nos pasaron las dos horas muy rápido. Un guía para recomendar.

What you need to know: history, traboules, and rivers

We booked this as the only guided thing we did in Lyon, and it turned out to be the highlight of the visit. Ryan has an extremely deep knowledge base and he weaves it together so it never feels like a history lesson. He's also very funny, which kept all three of us engaged the whole way. The route covers the major sights properly: Place Bellecour, the Saone crossing, Saint-Jean cathedral and its astronomical clock, the secret Renaissance traboules in Vieux Lyon, Rue Merciere, and finishing at Place des Terreaux. He's a Torontonian who's lived in Lyon for decades, so you get the local perspective delivered by someone who knows exactly what a North American visitor doesn't know yet. His restaurant recommendations afterward were excellent too. We're from Buffalo, so we told him to look us up if he's ever back on this side of the lake — we owe him a drink. Two hours, easy pace. If you're only in Lyon a few days, do this first; it makes everything you see afterward make more sense.
