Tour description

In Guipuzcoa specifically, in less than twenty minutes you can go from the city to the mountains; from the orchards to the jungle; from the recreational port to the industrial port; from sandstone to granite. This close relationship with nature is the nostalgia and "morriña" or "saudade" that Basques feel when we are away from home.
I invite you to travel with me on this spectacular walk from San Sebastián to Pasajes crossing Mount Ulía in which we will put ourselves in the shoes of whalers, fishermen, shipyards, merchants and horticulturists.

Itinerary:

1. We will start our tour at the meeting point.

2. Viewpoint 1 . The excursion begins with a climb in which we will go from the urban to the rural environment without realizing it. Once we arrive we will take a few minutes for photos, because this view of San Sebastián deserves it. (00h30min)
3. Viewpoint 2. In this section we will have passed from civilization to what I like to call the Gipuzkoan jungle: from here we can see the sandstone cliffs and their sinuous shapes. Depending on the direction of the wind, we will see the coastline to Vizcaya more or less clearly. (01h00min)
- 10 minute break and more photos-

4. Faro de la Plata. The road in this part is almost flat and we will do it in an hour and a half until we reach the Faro de la Plata that guides the ships in their movie entrance to the port of Pasajes. From this point, the sandstone cliffs meet with the view of the majestic Peñas de Aya, a granite mountain that holds the secrets of the early history of this region of the world. (02h45min)

-10 minute break… and shower of selfies-

5. Arrival at Pasajes San Pedro. We will go down to the old town of Pasajes bordering the entrance channel to the port. On this side is the Albaola Museum - temporarily closed - in which a 16th century whaler is rebuilt. (03h15min)

From here we will take the bus (E08 or E09, which pass every 15 or 10 minutes respectively, E09 being the fastest) back to San Sebastián. We can get off in the Gros neighborhood or in the Center. The price of the bus per person is 1.85 euros, and they do not usually accept tickets of more than 10 euros :)

If the plan ends here, you have to plan that the total time of the excursion to return to the starting point is between 4 hours and 4h30 hours.

Optional, for those who want to continue (and recommended) :

Once in Pasajes, you can cross to San Juan, the most picturesque area of Pasajes. The trip has a price of 0.90 cents per person and it is done on a local ferry in a journey as short as it is charming, you have to set up the cameras so as not to miss the picture!

  • In the Plaza de la Santiago there are some very appetizing terraces where the afternoon sun hits to replenish mineral salts and, why not, some homemade croquette.
  • The seafood of the Casa Cámara restaurant is known, as well as the views of Ziaboga, but anyone who is in the first line is worth it for its views and its maritime charm.

If the idea is to stay in Pasajes for lunch or dinner, it is important to reserve and notify to help you organize the return to San Sebastián and bring you spare clothes.

The EO1 bus, back to San Sebastián, passes through this side of the canal.

NOTES OF INTEREST:

- For those who are in the habit, walking sticks are welcome - although not essential.

- In summer, if the weather is nice, the swimsuit can be a prize on arrival at Pasajes :)

- For those who come by car: it is NOT recommended to leave the car at the meeting point, as it is a place with time limited to three hours maximum. The alternative is to leave the car in Parking del Kursaal.

Muchas gracias.
